About the Founder

Who am I and why did I start this venture? I’m Mel. I’ve spent over a decade in the tech industry, working across FinTech, Big Tech, and SMBs. Along the way, I’ve been laid off twice and “managed out” of a job I loved. Sound familiar? We’ve all seen or experienced it.

In the past 2-3 years, many of my friends and former colleagues have fallen victim to Reductions in Force (RIFs), layoffs, fired for “poor performance” or ushered into early retirement, particularly in Big Tech. Many of those affected were over 40, some having worked at the same company for 10-20 years and haven’t searched for a job in decades.

Job loss can trigger feelings of being overwhelmed, a loss of identity, financial strain, emotional/physical stress, battered self confidence —something I know all too well from my own experiences.

During my involuntary time off, I learned valuable lessons in resume writing, reshifting career focus, and navigating a fiercely competitive job market. I shared what I learned in helping others by reviewing their resumes and LinkedIn profiles and became a certified resume writer. However, I noticed a common issue: many were unintentionally aging themselves. In a youth dominated industry like tech, these were critcal mistakes that could cost you an interview opportunity.

After seeing yet another wave of tech layoffs in 2025, I knew there were many more people feeling lost - not knowing where to start. That's when I founded RIF Resumes, with the goal of helping as many as possible.
